id2 Regional Training Camps

The id2 Regional Training Camps bring together the nation’s top youth players for four days of competition, evaluation and fun. Players are identified to participate in the id2 Regional Training Camps as a result of a yearlong scouting program. An invitation only event, the id2 National Regional Camps also seek to identify and develop the country’s best players for inclusion in US Soccer’s youth national team programs. US Soccer Youth Development Program staff are in attendance at the id2 Regional Training Camps to monitor players’ performances.

Once players arrive at the id2 National Training Camp, US Club Soccer covers all player expenses. Players’ training uniforms, balls, bags and other equipment are provided by Nike, the Official Equipment Supplier of US Club Soccer.
2006 id2 Regional Training Camps

The 2006 id2 program is moving to a regional format and will include girls’ age groups for the first time. Boys and girls with ’93 and ’94 birth years are eligible to participate in the 2006 id2 program. Rather than staging a National Training Camp in 2006, the id2 program will consist of three regional events across the country. US Soccer Youth Development Program staff will be on site at these id2 Regional Training Camps to scout players for inclusion in the U14 National Team Program:

* Oct. 6-9 in Zarephath, N.J., hosted by PDA for Boys and Girls
* Oct. 6-9 in San Bernardino, Calif. hosted by Coast Soccer League for Boys and Girls
* Oct. 12-15 in Chicago, Ill. hosted by Chicago Magic for Boys

How Players are Scouted

Scouts from across the country have already begun identifying players for inclusion in the id2 Regional Training Camps as they compete in their own environment with their club teams. id2 scouts will evaluate players at all eight 2006 US Club Soccer National Cup V Regionals, which kick off Memorial Day weekend and continue through the Fourth of July weekend, as well as at matches and tournaments staged throughout the summer.

Unlike ODP, parents do not have to assume the expense of multiple costly tryout camps (that also remove players from their club programs for significant periods of time) to ensure their players are seen by id2 scouts. The id2 selection process is apolitical as players are identified regardless of their affiliation (i.e. US Club Soccer, USYSA, AYSO, non-affiliated, etc.).
How to Become a Scout

"This (national) camp is a chance for him to have advanced training. It gives him exposure to advanced perspectives. Sometimes it's easy to play for your club because you're receiving the same message and training every day. Few coaches address all the complex needs that a soccer player has. Here the players have access to well-rounded, high caliber coaching and are competing with other top players. It's a great opportunity for them."

- Tom Garner, whose son Eli-Thomas (Goldstar's very own) attended the 2005 id2 National Training Camp

The inaugural 2004 id2 National Training Camp was held in Raleigh, N.C. July 25-29, 2004 and conducted by head staff coach Tim Carter, who formerly served as US Soccer’s Director of Youth Development. Over 100 U13 boys (‘91s) participated in the camp, which was attended by John Ellinger, at the time US Soccer’s Director of Youth Development, and his US Soccer Youth Development staff. Six id2 participants earned invitations to US Soccer’s U14 National Development Program camp. Another 20 players were added to US Soccer’s U14 player pool. The remaining id2 players continue to scouted and evaluated by US Club Soccer staff.

The 2005 National Training Camp expanded to include over 100 U13 (‘92) and U14 (‘91) boys. The 2005 id2 National Training Camp was held in Jacksonville, Fla. July 24-28, 2005 and conducted by Tim Carter, who returned for his second year as head staff coach. Over 100 boys in U13 and U12 age groups (‘91s and ‘92s, respectively) participated in the camp which was attended by Brian Maisonneuve, U.S. Soccer’s U-17 Men’s Assistant Coach, and Juan Carlos Michia, a U.S. Soccer Men’s National Staff Coach. Six id2 attendees earned invitations to U.S. Soccer’s U-14 National Development Program camp.
