Youth recreational Leagues

Goldstar Soccer Club's  Instructional Recreational Soccer League is for boys & girls ages 3 - 12.

Our Recreational Division fosters a learning environment in which children can get a great

exposure to the game of soccer and develop the basic skill sets required to grow in our
Recreational League or advance our more competitive level of play (YDA).
Our Recreational League is fully sanctioned by United States Club Soccer; a member of the United
States Soccer Federation (USSF). We adhere to the USSF rules and guidelines for appropriate
game play, and encourage every child to play as much as possible (i.e. players are to receive 50%
playing time per game).
Young soccer players will compete in a weekend soccer game but will also participate in a
mid-week training session directed by a professionally licensed coach who specializes in youth
soccer. Each hour long practice session consists of 35 minutes of technical training followed by 20
minutes of scrimmage time. This format has proven to teach and increase the child's’ knowledge of
the sport while enhancing his / her overall confidence and soccer development.
Our professional coaches also offer guidance and soccer education to volunteer parent coaches,
better equipping them for the Saturday game-day matches.
Depending on where you live, weekly soccer practices are either at our soccer complex in Apex, Chavis
Heights Community Center (off Martin Luther King Boulevard) or a North Raleigh/Knightdale (*) park.

All recreational practices are at the same time and place and day each week.

 * Our focus in North Raleigh/Knightdale is Hispanic youth play, but all children are welcome.

All Saturday games are played at our soccer complex in Apex, bordering Cary and West Raleigh.
We do our best to schedule games at the same time each Saturday for each age group PreK. U5 and up
will have their game time fluctuate, but game play is over by early afternoon.

competitive  teams

yda - youth development academy

All Boys and girls must tryout for these 2010 Fall Competitive Teams.

YDA - Youth Development Academy

If your son or daughter missed tryouts or you are new to the area and would like to tryout, please email tryouts@triangleunited.org or call 919.942.1995.

* Children who are not sure if they want to play Competitive Soccer are welcome to come to tryouts, inquire and take advantage of a professional training session.

This Youth Development Academy  is targeted for children aspiring to play at a higher level than Recreational soccer, those seeking more competitive training and games, as well as those aspiring to play Classic soccer. This program is designed for boys and girls (strong rising U8) U-9 through U-11. This competitive program is in between Recreational and Classic soccer. Children will be playing in the Champion's League, and carded with Triangle United.

Maintaining a challenging environment, selected children/teams are given the opportunity to play "play up" one age group above their age. Players who join in the Spring intensely train for 5 months; 2 practices (with an optional 3rd) per week, along with a weekly competitive game (locally).

These teams compete in USSF (United States Soccer Federation) sanctioned leagues. Competitive games are typically played Sunday afternoon, starting no earlier than 1:00pm.  Our "home" games are played at our complex in Apex, and "away" games played in Cary or Chapel Hill. Teams also participate in tournaments (2-3 per season), festivals, State Games, as well as scrimmages with local soccer clubs.

Travel is Minimal

In addition to weekly competitive outdoor games, players also prosper by exceptional weekly training. Each team has a minimum of 2 (two) 1-½ hour training sessions per week; every Monday and Wednesday. An optional 3rd practice day is available (typically on Thursday). All game and practice coaching is done by a licensed, professional Goldstar/Triangle United  coach. Practices are centrally located around NCSU. Our Hispanic Division mainly trains in North Raleigh/Knightdale.
These young players are strongly encouraged to participate in our Recreational League (playing up an age group). This gives young soccer players an opportunity to "Just Play Soccer". Many of the expectations and pressures of competitive play are lifted while playing recreational soccer, enabling children to enjoy more freedom and flexibility. This helps enables encourage more creativity, helps build self-esteem (i.e. recreational soccer isn't as competitive so children are able to "shine" more) and helps players further develop and strengthen their own "Soccer Style". Recreational games are played Saturday, with Wednesday practices conducted by Goldstar coach. There is no additional financial obligation for these competitive players to play recreational soccer, other than the cost of their shirts/jersey.
