| Chika Echendu joined Goldstar in 2004 to coach, lead and make a difference with our male players. Born and raised in Kana, Nigeria, this young soccer sensation
found himself playing for both the U-17 and U-21 Nigerian National Team where he was honored three time
MVP. At that time, he was under the coaching expertise of
Goldstar's Henry Abdioun.
After playing for the Nigerian National Team, Chika
played professionally in Nigeria for the Stationary Stars which then lead him to Europe to play for
Perugia AC in Italy. During a training break, he visited the
United States where he met his future wife in Raleigh, NC. Lured by love and wanting to stay in the United States, Chika, played for Division II Raleigh
Flyers (small world - coached by Mike
Moltzon).
Still young and needing to "sew is soccer oats", after playing for the Raleigh Flyers, Chika went to play for
Premier Division Atlas FC in
Guadalajara, Mexico. Mexico then lead him to play in Belarus for
Dynamo Minsk. During this time, there was still a girl back in Raleigh that he could not stop
thinking about.
Even though Chika played against renowned players such as Brazilian's
Ronaldinho, other MLS teams (and even
scoring against Jorge Campos himself), he could not stay away from the girl in Raleigh, where he came back to take her as a bride and have 2 beautiful children
with.
We are very excited to have Coach Chika as part of our staff for the boys
& girls programs.
You can find Coach Chika coaching in our Recreational
Soccer League, running clinics, privately instructing
players and co-coaching competitive teams.
